Exclusive Interview

BIO I’m Amirah. I currently live in Los Angeles but I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Growing up, I feel like I was the black sheep of the family for basically being the only member in my family with the interest or passion for music, fashion, art etc. A fun fact about me: I’ve never really considered myself to be musically inclined since I have zero knowledge in music theory whatsoever but I’ve always had an ear for good music. I don’t play any kind of musical instrument nor can I read music but somehow, I’m able to come up with melodies and compose a fully written song. I’ve always thought that was a pretty cool ability to have.

2) Who are your top 5 influences? My top 5 influences are Rihanna, Tinashe, J.Lo, Beyonce & Jhene Aiko

When are your new projects coming out? I’ve been focused on writing and recording singles lately and so I have a few singles that I’m planning to release before the year comes to an end. I’ve also started working on an EP project that’s in the plans to be released sometime next year.

What helped you get into music? Myself. I always felt like an oddball growing up. I used to always feel misunderstood for being “different” in my family. Music was the only outlet I have that helped me keep a positive outlook on things. It helped me go through a lot of those tough times that I’ve had to go through alone growing up. From there, I developed a super strong bond with music and swore to myself it was the only thing I wanted to pursue.

What is one thing you would tell your fans? Do not be afraid or think you’re too good to seek or receive help when you know you need it! You cannot do these things alone. It takes a village to help bring your dreams to live and that’s something I had to learn the hard way. Sometimes you need to put your pride aside and learn how to work and collaborate with others.

What are your biggest goals for 2020? The biggest keyword in 2020 so far for me has been consistency! The biggest struggle in general for me is keeping a consistency in a lot of the things I do. So, my goal in 2020 is staying consistent especially when it comes to making and putting more music out on a regular basis. The time is now or never.
