Exclusive Interview
BIO: Edge Of The Universe is the Electronic/Rock project from guitarist and recording artist Sean Penn, a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Music Production & Engineering and lifelong musician. The theme I’ve been developing with the art and music in EOTU is a sci-fi/future/mindscape vibe. The debut album Redshift (2019) was noticed by podcasters and local radio despite zero marketing, so that was exciting. Now I’m looking to take it to the next level. Also, I’m a father of two awesome kids!
Top 5 influences? Tough to choose just 5! But here goes… * Hooverphonic * Failure/Ken Andrews * Muse * Tycho * Pretty much everything on SomaFM.com Groove Salad (and a few of their other stations)
New Projects? My new EP, String Theory, will be released on Valentine’s Day, Feb 14! Five new songs, including one I’ll be releasing as a single: “Lust A.I.” Every song has some form of strings – guitar or symphonic. Watch for it at eotu.space
What got you into music? My first guitar I got for Christmas as a kid. It wasn’t a great guitar, but it had six strings and you could still rock out or chill out. Once I learned to play I was hooked for life. Lately, the technology is getting me inspired. Synths, innovative guitar tech, software; it’s a bottomless well of creative inspiration.
Anything to tell your fans? Technically, I’ve already shipped millions of copies LOL! Many years ago I wrote two songs that ended up on Dell Media Experience computers as part of the included content. I have no idea how many they shipped, but it was definitely a lot, and that’s pretty cool! I always wondered how many people played those songs. Reach out if you heard them! The songs were called Heliograph and Interstellar.
Biggest Goals for 2020? All the songs so far are instrumentals, so they would go well with TV, film, or video games. I would love to get a sync license or two. This year I plan to spend more time on outreach, and of course writing several new tunes. Never stop!
