Aaron California

  1. Exclusive Interview

What inspires you the most when you create? People. Hands down. I’ve always been fascinated with human nature and try to understand why we behave the way we do as well as why, as a whole, people tend to have similar “knee-jerk” reactions to certain things. I like to observe the people around me and try to understand them better. The way I see it, it’s easy to repair a car when you understand how the car works, so if I can better understand people then it will be easier to become better at helping them.

Who are your top 5 influences? This is a tough one since I have so many. I listen to a lot of different genres of music to draw inspiration from. In no particular order, I’d say Tom MacDonald, Childish Gambino, Khalid, Rebelution and Rittz are my most played artists.

When are your new projects coming out? I am currently working on my debut LP “The Face You Hide Behind” that will be available on all streaming platforms this fall! (follow me on Spotify! ) In the meantime I release a new track on the first weekend of every month on my SoundCloud page! ()

What helped you get into music? I first got into music because my dad was always super serious but I thought it was awesome how he would become happy almost immediately when the right song came on. I noticed that everyone seemed to be affected the same way by their favorite songs, too! As a kid I thought that was so cool to be able to affect people like that and I wanted to be able to do it, too. Since I’ve started making music, I’ve noticed that the general conversation in hip hop and pop has slowly gravitated away from the more meaningful subjects (at least in mainstream) and I want to be one of the pebbles that creates the waves of change in this pond! There are so many better things to talk about than how much money is in your bank account or how much lean it took to wash down a handful of molly’s!

What is one thing you would tell your fans? That it’s ok to be you. I see so much of the world today coming down so hard on themselves since we’ve come to value ourselves and each other based on the social media response and it’s really sad. You are more than your Instagram following and you don’t need a blue check mark next to your Twitter handle to be “someone”. You are someone and you’re awesome! Don’t let the world get you down and know that you’re not alone in whatever you face in this life

What are your biggest goals for 2019? This is a good one! My biggest goal in 2019 is to reach and help as many people as I can through my music and to perform in front of as many people as possible! Anyone who wants to tune in, I’m everywhere at either or just search “Aaron California”! I share motivational quotes and funny videos as well so I’ve got a little bit for just about everyone!
