Devon Love

Exclusive Interview

What inspires you the most when you create? I usually write songs that are about a certain feeling that I am experiencing that is weighing on me heavily. I would say my emotional state would be a large source of inspiration. I draw a lot of inspiration from seeing local bands in my area. I’ve noticed that going to concerts is the perfect way to get me in the writing zone.

Who are your top 5 influences? My influences change on a regular basis depending on the kind of mood that I am having. However, my current top five musical influences would be John Mayer, Lady Gaga, Paramore, Tillan and Makari.

When are your new projects coming out? My plan is to release and promote my single by the end of 2019 or early 2020. There are two other songs that I was a writer for will be here VERY soon. Some of the songs are being pitched to a label which is very exciting. Those releases I have less control over to be honest ( depends on other people involved).

What helped you get into music? I went to a school that had fantastic resources so I learned harp, musical improvisation and participated in recitals at a young age. Throughout my life, I encountered a lot of music teachers that believed in me. I’ve been blessed by them in ways I cannot express. Also, I grew up with my friend’s sister was a professional working musician. I was 14 on the weekends my friend’s and I would basically load up the van for her shows. We traveled alongside all the musicians to their gigs on the weekend and got the best seats. Anything the band needed we did! I looked up to her so much and just thought she was coolest person ever.

What is one thing you would tell your fans? I want to tell all my fans that I love them very much. My fanbase this year so insane. They are so awesome and seem to be very curious about who I’m dating ( which I find to be hilarious)!! I appreciate them staying by my side when basically took a complete hiatus from music to pursue my Bachelor’s degree full time. They never left and I know they’ve been waiting a while for me to come back. Not at artists can say that! Their faith in me has helped push me forward. I really enjoy in engaging with them at my shows. I wouldn’t bother to make music if it wasn’t for them.

What are your biggest goals for 2019? My biggest goals for my music this year are to release my single, travel to Nashville and break into new music venues. I’ve added new repertoire so it’s hard to choose that song that really represents what direction my solo project is going! My goal last year was to try co-writing with new people. I love how those collaborations turned out with songwriter Ann Ammar and our producer Mason Douglas.
