Exclusive Interview

What inspires you the most when you create?I love to use a combination of what is current in my life + what my mind is focused on future wise, experiences either I’ve encountered or was close enough to for me to express, & of course, wordplay. My mother has a very strong poetic background and that comes out when writing because I pay attention to synonyms, antonyms, homophones, alliteration, and other forms of creative writing to try and get my message across in a highly creative, yet comprehendible manner.

Who are your top 5 influences? The top 5 artists who get me in a zone when listening to them would be 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, Young Thug, Jay-Z, & Tilly. The top 4 all have very contrasting approaches to their art and I’ve grown to learn, appreciate, and understand what each artist contributes to my song making process. & Tilly is number 5 because listening to my own work makes me want to go in and kill my own work. My songs serve as time stamps for me to remember where I was at when I wrote it, and compare myself then to now to see where I’ve grown and where I need to grind.

When are your new projects coming out? My mixtape, Full Moon, will be released Summer 2019. 15 tracks that will take you on a journey through my progress. Over the last couple of years I spent learning myself as an artist, and how I want to be received by my audience. This tape will give slight insight to every side of Tilly. My follow-up tape, #1 Contender, will release late 2019.

What helped you get into music? My mother’s poetic background, my fathers military roots, and both parents allowing me to creatively express myself at a young age. I’ve been writing since I was 13-14, and it became therapeutic for me going through the struggles of being a teenage product of divorce. I never viewed music as a career option until I was about 18-19 when I met the Xero Gang. I graduated HS and I knew a 9-5 life is not what I envisioned for myself. I want to be in a position where I can live my life doing what makes me happy, without someone else having the power to take away everything at the drop of a dime. The income possibility that comes with music will put me in a position that I can take care of my family, and to anyone who I have or will inspire, I need to prove to them that it’s never too late to capitalize on your dreams. It’s way bigger than myself.

What is one thing you would tell your fans? Diamonds form under pressure. No matter what it is you’re going through, no matter how big or small, see it through to the end. There’s a rainbow after every storm, you just need the right light to see it. If my music is an escape for you, know that every song of mine has words of encouragement for you. My lyrics are messages to you, as well as myself. We all have something we’re dealing with. I love you all and know we’re in this for the long haul. Thank you for each and every one of you.

What are your biggest goals for 2019?  I am going to expose Tilly to as many people who are open to accepting me and what I have to offer. There’s going to be so much content for them to understand who I am and why I do this. Videos, show recaps, interviews, 2019 is going to be the year Tilly & Xero Gang gets introduced to the world one outlet at a time.
