What inspires you the most when you create? I’m a student of human beings, behavioral patterns, cause-and-effect etc.; When I write lyrics, a range of elements spark inspirations, concepts and directions. Elements such as a quote that I may have stumbled upon, a conversation I had with whomever, personal experiences, experiences lived vicariously through people etc.
For this particular EP “Polluted”, about 80% of the lyrics is inspired by my perspectives formed from my observations and analysis on humans’ parts in the factors that have contributed to the current state of the world.
Sonically and melodically it’s mostly a combination of factors that’s all in my head – I’d hear a sound and record it on a voice note right away, I’d ruminate it to evaluate its potential, then present it to my producer, Erick Gerber (who has produced, mixed and master the entire EP) and we’ll develop the music from there.
Who are your top 5 influences? I don’t necessarily or specifically have a top 5 influence list – I’m influenced by the music more so than the artists, i.e. the music that I’m exposed to, the music that I listen to, which varies in music genre/style and this contributes to my eclecticism in music.
What helped you get into music? I started singing after hearing Chris Brown’s first and self-titled album, I wanted to be the female version of him, hence I thought: I already love dancing, let me try and sing – started to nurture my voice, hone my skills and uncover my personality in music i.e my sound.
