ToMC Beatz

Exclusive Interview

BIO ToMC (Thomas M. Chaney) Producer/Performer Genre: Hip Hop, Trap Location: Wainiha, HI Contact:

What inspires you the most when you create? For me, inspiration comes in all forms. I think the challenge is being open and perceptive to it’s calling. I love the feeling of creating that sound or perfect pause that I can picture a crowd going crazy over. Also, I was a B-Boy back in the day so it’s gotta be something I could up-rock to for it to inspire me.

Who are your top 5 influences? Havoc of Mobb Deep, The RZA, Rick Rubin, Mos Def, Damian Marley.

When are your new projects coming out?  I have a beat tape coming out mid January. It’s a 12 track album called “Ink Dripperz: Beatz for Lyrical Peepz” It’s basically something you can throw on and start writing to or freestyle lyrics over to get the creative juices flowing. Right now, I’m working on a project featuring Myka 9 of Freestyle Fellowship. The track is called, “Ground Zero” I don’t have a release date yet but I’m shooting for Summer 2019. I’m also a few songs deep on another EP with my Hip Hop collective, Disciples of Separate Kingdom (DSK), again no set date for release, yet.

What helped you get into music? Myself. I’m a self taught musician. I started playing guitar when I was 11. (I wanted to be like Kurt Cobain) Now I can play about 5 different instruments. I got into turntables and scratching around 17. But, playing another artist’s music just didn’t give me the freedom I was craving. So, I started making my own beats. But, I always wrote my own songs since I first started playing. I couldn’t afford song books and the internet had just come out so….

What is one thing you would tell your fans? If I have any real fans besides my Mom hahaha, I guess I would tell them, “Thank You!” “Thank you for believing in me from the start.” When I see a persons face light up in the crowd, while performing a live set, it’s a great reminder that it’s all worth it. Even if I inspire just one person, it feels like I put some good out into the world.

What are your biggest goals for 2019? I want to find a mentor or something similar to help me develop my brand and start leasing my beats on a more consistent basis. I’d like to get my digital label site, up and running. It’s a free platform for Hawaii’s independent Hip Hop artists to show case their work and learn how to operate on a more professional level. Most people aren’t aware of the Hip Hop scene out here, but there’s a lot of talent and I want to create something to show the world that Hawaii puts the ‘HI’ in Hip Hop! I also wanna get my 45k streams on Spotify up into the 6 figure range. Links for ToMC: Spotify: iTunes: DSK: All Major Social: Beats
