IBRA

Exclusive Interview

Bio: I’m an 18 year old singer, songwriter, and producer born in Lahore, Pakistan, but my roots are Toronto and currently Dallas. If I had to pick a genre of music to describe what I make I’d say contemporary R&B, but my stuff ranges from hip hop to soul to pop to rock.

Top 5 Influences? Kevin Abstract, Frank Ocean, Kanye West, Lauryn Hill, Radiohead

New Projects? Working on a bunch of smaller side stuff with people who’d reached out to collaborate and some new singles, no official release dates yet

What helped me get into Music?  My parents were always playing Pakistani and Bollywood music in the car or around the house since I was young, which is what I was exposed to rather than American music. I started listening to Radiohead in 7th grade, and they were probably the first artist that got me out of casual listening and really interested in music, because huge fans of them and quickly caught up by listening to every one of their albums multiple times. When Kendrick dropped “To Pimp a Butterfly” though was when I really got hooked into hip hop and R&B, an album I don’t think he’ll ever top.

Anything to tell fans?  If you have a dream, chase that dream. Don’t be afraid about failure or what others might think of you or if you might “disappoint” people, because at the end of the day, your life is your life and you’re not gonna want to be sitting at a desk job at 30 regretting choosing the “safe” path because you were too scared.

Goals for 2017? Hopefully get some more attention and build a bigger audience/platform, make some money because I’m dead broke, and continue to put out genuine music
