My true introduction into Hip-Hop was through B-Boying or breakin’ (or “breakdancing” for those who aint hip) and that was back in 2008. I used to hang out with a DJ who came up in the 1980s and he was kind of like a mentor to me. In 2011 i joined up with the W.F.H. Krew in Houston and that’s when i started making records. Together we created the Sons of the Tongue Posse (named after the Native Tongues) and that collective consisted of members from a couple of different crews. From 2011 to now I’ve been writing, recording and performing almost nonstop as a solo artist and as a member of Sons of the Tongue. My first project dropped in 2013 and my latest project “The Excursion II: A Poet In the Land of Cruel Intentions” came out in 2015. On Cruel Intentions i teamed up with Zachary Garren (former guitarist of Dance Gavin Dance and the current guitarist for Strawberry Girls) and we worked our butts off on that album. In 2016 i started my own record label and i began writing and recording my forthcoming release “Silence EP”. I plan on releasing it later this year. Not bad for an unsigned emcee.
Were you influenced by old records & tapes? Which ones?:
Of course! There’s so many but i can give you the first 5 that come to mind. “La Di Da Di” by Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh, “T.I.M.E. (The Inner Minds Eye)” by Leaders of the New School, “Monkey Business” by Black Eyed Peas, “My Girl” by The Temptations, and “The Low End Theory” by A Tribe Called Quest
What’s your favorite song you’ve ever done?:
Either “Televised” (the ORIGINAL Televised, Pt 1 from 2011) or “World’s Gone Mad”.
Any new projects?:
Right now I’m very busy. I have the “Silence EP” coming later this year, Two side projects (one of them is with my homie Bobby Earth), Naprodamus of W.F.H. is working on his album “Planet Damus” and Croom the Crusader of W.F.H. is working on his EP “For Munik”. All of these projects are being released on my record label and I’m working with everybody to make sure we give yall nothing but greatness. I’m either singing, playing guitar, emceeing or scratching on every project and It’s my job to get it all out there. It’s mad stressful but i enjoy the work.
What artists would you like to collab with?:
Oh man! There’s so many artists i want to work with. I have a friend named Sudie and she’s signed to a record label in Dallas called Computer Ugly. I’ve wanted to write music with her for awhile. Sudie released an incredible EP in 2016 called “Prism” please go check it out! That’s the homie! She’s influenced a lot of my writing on the “Silence EP”. I’ve also wanted to work with Vel the Wonder for years. Q-Tip, Kurt Travis, De La Soul, DJ Premier, Strawberry Girls. Too many! I want to work with everybody.
