The Oceans Deep

Exclusive Interview

“A truly unique and genre bending music experience”

Our team loves The Ocean Deep and what Travis has done with his musical ability. Very dope and we hope to hear more!”

The Oceans Deep A solo project created by Travis Nelson Bio: – I love the idea of music being raw. Raw in a sense that music can be beautiful no matter how it is presented. There is a specific concept that I am trying to get across through each one of my songs. Each concept is something that has deeply influenced my life and the others around me. Born and raised in Santa Cruz, CA. Currently living in West Palm Beach, FL. The Oceans Deep varies in genre from alternative hip-hop to indie pop. My music has been influenced by bands like Alt-j, Twenty One Pilots, and Oh Wonder. Who are your top 5 influences? – My first influence is absolutely Twenty One Pilots. When I first heard their album “Vessel” back in 2013 I went nuts! Their sound was so original and new and I was so attracted to that specific new sound. They have greatly inspired the sound of my music. My second influence is a band called Alt-j. Joe Newman’s (the lead vocalist and guitarist) creativity never ceases to amaze me. Newman’s vocals are so clean and original, the bands overall indie rock/pop sound is to die for. My Third influence is a band called Oh Wonder. Their chill electro pop sound makes you want to drool. Everything they create is flawlessly beautiful. My fourth is Adam Young (Owl City). His production genius blows my mind. He is truly a master when it comes to producing beautiful heart wrenching music. It is incredible how he can create electronic masterpieces while also compose symphonies on the side. The variety is amazing, and that is something I greatly appreciate. My fifth and last influence has to be Mayday Parade, and specifically their debut album titled, “A Lesson in Romantics”. This pop punk vibe is quite different from my own, but I love the emotion in their music. Their creativity with words inspires me to reach deeper within my mind and discover something greater and something that can move people and audiences. When are your new projects coming out? – I am currently releasing my second EP of about 8 original songs on Soundcloud, plus a few cover songs to go along with that. The first 5 songs have been released already. I am working on new music. I am very stoked about these songs that I am currently working on, they are very deeply intentional and require a lot of thought. I am very excited about it and hopefully will be releasing new material in mid to late 2016. What helped you get into music? – I was always very creative and artistic as a boy. I wrote poetry, I painted, and I was always jamming on some kind of instrument. I grew up in a very musically inclined family and was taught a lot from my siblings and family members. By the age of 15 I had learned to play the piano, drums, guitar, ukulele, violin, and the electric bass. I was constantly asked to participate in local musical events, which helped me gain experience playing live shows. I did this all throughout high school until I decided to record my own EP in my friend’s garage studio. This was mainly just for fun. A few years later I bought some of my own equipment and started recording my own songs through Logic, and this is what birthed my new and current EP titled “Let Me Be”. What is one thing you would tell your fans? – Obviously I want to say thank you. I am extremely thankful to whoever takes the time to click play and listen to any of my music. I love you guys, and I hope that my music can help you take a step back and really think about what matters most in your life personally. I want to make you feel something that you have never felt before, something enticing and beautiful all at the same time. What are your biggest goals for 2016? – I want to start regularly playing live shows so that I can meet fans and make new connections. I want to create a fan base that truly appreciates the art of my music. I am excited for 2016, as it will be a great year of growth for me personally and for The Oceans Deep.
